ROCKFORD, Ill. – For the third time in the 2010-11 season, the efforts of Rockford College senior Robert Malone (Stephens, Ark./ Stephens) have been recognized by the Northern Athletics Conference. On Monday, Malone was named NAC Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 23.
After a disappointing five game losing skid, Malone put the Regents on his back to notch their first win since December 18, a 75-73 win over Concordia University Chicago. Malone recorded career highs in points and rebounds with 40 points and 16 rebounds. He shot 14-21 from the floor, including 8-10 from beyond the three-point line. In a tight game, the senior shot 7-7 from beyond the arc in the second half alone. Malone played all 40 minutes, making a big impact in the game’s final minute. His final rebound and point helped the Regents ice the game.
The physical education major followed that performance with a 23 points, six rebound performance in a 96-84 loss at Concordia University Wisconsin.
For the season, Malone ranks number 10 in the nation in scoring with 23.5 points per game. He also ranks among the top 5 in the Northern Athletics Conference in rebounding (9.1), steal (2.5), blocks (0.9), and minutes (36.1).
The Regents will return to the court on Wednesday, January 26 when they travel to Aurora, Illinois to face the Aurora University Spartans before returning to the Seaver Center on Saturday to face the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders.
