ROCKFORD, Ill. – For the second time this season, the individual efforts of Rockford College senior Megan Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./ Pearl City) have been recognized the by the Northern Athletics Conference. On Tuesday, Lawler was named Northern Athletics Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 16.
Though the Regents finished the week 1-1, it was the loss that drew the recognition for Lawler. The senior forward’s efforts in a 73-68 overtime home loss to Edgewood College led to one of the best games in school history. Lawler recorded 22 points on 10-15 shooting and grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds while playing 41 of 45 minutes. The physical education major also recorded two blocks, one assist, and one steal. Lawler’s 20-20 game was the fifth in school history and the first since Staci Brown scored 39 points and grabbed 22 boards on December 12, 1997 against Webster.
Lawler currently ranks third in the NCAA Division III in field goal percentage at 63%, while ranking ninth in the NAC with 13.9 points per game and second in rebounding with 11.1. Her nine double-doubles rank 15th in the nation.
Rockford is currently 6-9 (4-4 NAC) and travels to Benedictine University tonight. The ladies will return to the Seaver Center on January 25, when they host the Concordia University Chicago Cougars.
