ROCKFORD, Ill. – One of the great things about basketball is that the game allows one individual to carry the team to an impressive performance. For the third time this season, the Northern Athletics Conference has found that a Rockford College men’s basketball player has done just that. On Monday, Regents senior Taylor Stinson (Schiller Park, Ill./ East Leyden) was named NAC Student-Athlete of the Week. Stinson joins fellow Rockford senior Robert Malone (Stephens, Ark./ Stephens) as winners of the award thus far during the 2010-11 campaign.
Stinson, a sports management major, recorded a career-high 38 points on 14-21 shooting in Rockford’s 100-72 win over North Central University. Taylor connected on 10-16 from three point range, setting a new school record for made three-pointers in a game. The previous record was nine which Taylor set on February 14, 2009. Taylor got Rockford off to a hot start with 30 points before the halftime break.
The senior shooting guard is third on the team with 11.5 points per game, while shooting just under 40% from the field and over 41% from three point distance. Stinson is also fourth on the Regents in steals and assists, averaging 1.2 each.
Stinson and the Regents will enjoy the holiday break before returning to the Seaver Center floor on December 27 when they host North Central College.
