ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford College women’s basketball team extended their current win streak to three games with Wednesday’s 82-68 home victory over the Aurora University Spartans. The win evens the Regents record at 3-3, but 2-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference.
It was another wire to wire win for the Regents as they took control of the game early. By the middle of the first half, Rockford had established a commanding 32-16 lead, which they pushed to a game high 23 points just three minutes later. The Regents led 54-41 at the break on the strength of 57.6% shooting from the floor and 13-16 from the charity stripe.
The Regents kept the pressure on during the second half, several times extending their advantage to the 20 point plateau. The Rockford lead fluctuated in the 11-14 point range throughout most of the half, but each time it seemed as though Aurora was ready to make a run, the Regents responded with a big shot, rebound, or defensive stop.
Junior Britney Curry (Merrillville, Ind./ Merrillville) led the Regents with 24 points in the win. Curry also added five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Senior Megan Lawler Pearl City, Ill./ Pearl City) recorded her fourth consecutive double-double with 17 points and 13 boards. Junior Kaitlyn Sullivan (Lockport, Ill./ Lockport Township) and Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./ Pearl City) added nine points each.
The Regents will travel to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin on Saturday to face the Marian University Sabres. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
