ROCKFORD, Ill. – Just a few weeks into the college basketball season, two Rockford College basketball players are already establishing themselves as two of the best in the Northern Athletics Conference.  On Monday, seniors Megan Lawler and Robert Malone were named NAC Student-Athletes of the Week.

Megan Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./ Pearl City) has been an all-around interior force for the Regents.  Lawler, a physical education major, led Rockford to a 2-0 week with 14.5 points and 11.5 rebounds, while recording her second and third double-doubles of the season.  In Tuesday’s win over Beloit, Lawler became just the second Regents women’s player to at least 8-8 from the floor.  On the season, the forward leads the Regents in rebounds (11.4 per game) and steal (12), and is second with 14.0 points per game.

Robert Malone (Stephens, Ark./ Stephens) provides the same interior presence on the men’s side.  The physical education major averaged 22.3 points and 8.7 boards for the Regents last week.  In Wednesday’s nonconference victory at Knox College, Malone exploded for 30 points and 13 rebounds.  Malone currently leads the Regents in points (22.0 per game), rebounds (9.2 per game), and steals (2.6 per game).

Both the Regents women’s and men’s teams will be in action at the Seaver Center with visits from Aurora University this week.  The men will host the Spartans on Tuesday evening and the ladies on Wednesday.  Tip for both games is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
