RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Rockford College women’s basketball team extended their current win streak to two games with Saturday’s 84-56 win at Concordia University Chicago. The victory marks the first time since 2007 that the Regents have won their Northern Athletics Conference opener.
The score reflected Rockford’s improved play from the opening tip. Just 10 seconds in to the game, senior Megan Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./ Pearl City) connected on two free throws and Rockford was off and running. The Regents established a 45-29 halftime lead on the strength of 52% shooting from the floor, and an incredible 17-17 from the free throw line.
Rockford pushed their lead to a game-high 32 points after a 12-0 run midway through the second stanza. The Regents continued their hot shooting after the break, connecting on 53.8% of their shots from the floor, while limiting CUC to 34.6% from the floor and 0-7 from beyond the three-point arc.
Juniors Britney Curry (Merrillville, Ind./ Merrillville) and Nicole Olson (Shannon, Ill./ Eastland) led five Regents in double figures with 16 points. Olson’s 16 points off the bench included 4-7 from three-point range. Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./ Pearl City) finished with 15 points. Megan Lawler recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Kelcy Thorsen (Ottawa, Ill./ Serena) added 10 points.
Rockford returns home on Wednesday when they welcome the Aurora University Spartans to the Seaver Center for a 7:00 p.m. game.
