GALESBURG, Ill. - The Rockford College men’s basketball team improved to 2-1 on the young season with a 75-71 victory at Knox College on Wednesday evening. The Regents trailed 42-38 at the break, as their defense struggled, allowing Knox to shoot 53.3% from the floor, including 5-10 from beyond the three-point arc. Rockford went 0-6 from three and shot just 4-8 from the free throw line.
The Regents turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, allowing Knox just one three pointer in the second half and forced 13 turnovers en route to the victory.
Senior Robert Malone (Stephens, Ark./ Stephens) led three Regents in double figure scoring with 30 points. Malone also recorded 13 rebounds and three blocks. Junior Paul Hall (Des Moines, Iowa/ Roosevelt) added 21 points, including 8-8 from the charity stripe. Freshman Tory Minnifield (Blue Island, Ill./ Eisenhower) chipped in with 14 points, seven rebounds, and four steals.
Rockford will travel to Greencastle, Indiana this weekend for the DePauw University Mike Rokicki Community Versus Cancer Challenge. The Regents will face the host on Saturday at 6:00 p.m., with a match-up between Ohio Wesleyan and Indiana-East to follow. Championship and consolation games will he held on Sunday.
