Rockford Men Fall in Opener

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Rockford College men’s basketball team hit the road to open the 2010-11 season. The Regents travel to Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa to face a Crusader team off to its best start in school history at 5-1.
The young Regents team got off to a good start. The game’s first half featured seven ties and nine lead changes. At the break, Rockford held a slim two point lead at 41-39.
The second was a different story, as the crusaders came out of the locker room on a 15-2 run, establishing an 11 point lead just five minutes into the second stanza. A 28-13 spurt over seven minutes pushed Clarke’s lead to a game high 26 with just over four minutes to play, eventually winning 96-72.
Senior Robert Malone (Stephens, Ark./ Stephens) led three Rockford with 19 points, seven rebounds, five steals, and two blocks. Junior Paul Hall (Des Moines, Iowa/ Roosevelt) added 16 points and freshman Tory Minnifield (Blue Island, Ill./ Eisenhower) tallied 13 points and five boards.
The Regents will travel to Eureka, Ill. to face Eureka College on Saturday.
