ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Rockford College cross country teams closed their 2010 season in the same impressive fashion as they performed the entire year. Competing in the NCAA Midwest Regional Cross Country Meet at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Illinois, the Regents were among 524 runners competing in what is known as "Mini Nationals”. Runners fought through difficult conditions including drizzling rain, as temperatures were in the mid-40’s.
Senior Erin Filak-Stoffregen (Rockford, Ill./ Boylan) became the first Rockford College female runner to break the 24:00 barrier with a time of 23:21. Her finish also set new school, senior, and course record for the Regents women’s team. Her overall finish of 71st place is the highest regional finish for any Regents women’s runner.
Leading the men’s team was junior Victor Reyes (Winthrop Harbor, Ill./ Benton Harbor) whose time of 26:07.4 was the fastest time ever for a Regents’ junior and a new course record for Rockford College.
