ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Regents men’s soccer team continues to improve each year as is evidenced by the number of All-NAC selections.  This year, the team received its highest number of NAC All-Conference awards in the four year history of the conference.  The three awards is one more than the Regents received last season when Rockford earned its first ever All-NAC selections.

Ricky Gonzalez (Rockford, Ill./ Polo) received All-NAC Honorable Mention.  The four-year senior has been an invaluable member of the Regents Soccer program during his time at Rockford College.  Gonzalez started 50 of the 52 games, including every game during each of the last three seasons, during his collegiate career.  The defenseman scored one goal this year and also recorded an assist.  Gonzalez tied for the team led in minutes played with 1331. The senior received his bachelor’s degree and is now working towards his Masters in Business Administration.

Oscar Ortega (Beloit, Wis./ Hononegah) was named to the NAC All-Freshman Team.  Ortega started all 17 games for the Regents this season, scoring two goals and assisting on another.  The freshman led the team in shots with 46 and shots on goal with 15.  Ortega also finished 9th in the NAC with 2.71 shots per game.

Matt Nicholson (Stillman Valley, Ill./ Stillman Valley) was named to the NAC All-Sportsmanship Team.  Nicholson has started all 32 games since joining the Regents Soccer team at the start of last season.  The sophomore scored one goal for the Regents this season and was tied for second on the team with eight shots on goal.

Rockford finished the 2010 season with a 1-13-3 (0-8-3 NAC) record.  The Regents had a number of heartbreaking loses this season, including six games by two goals or less and one game in overtime.
