ROCKFORD, Ill. – After finishing 7th in the Northern Athletic Conference and qualifying for the NAC tournament for the first time since the 2007 season, three Regents were selected to receive All-Conference honors. The ladies finished the season strong propelling them into the tournament and earning them recognition by their peer institutions. The three All-NAC awards are the most the volleyball team has received from the conference since the 2006 season when they received four.
Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./Pearl City) received 2nd team All-NAC honors. The sophomore picked up right where she left off at the end of the 2009 season. Lawler led the Regents in numerous statistical categories this season including: kills (206), attacks (631), and service aces (34). The biology major also finished 2nd on the team with 277 digs. Lawler finished 8th in the NAC averaging 0.40 service aces per set.
Melissa Swaziek (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) also received 2nd team All-NAC honors. The 4-year senior continued to prove her value to the team with leadership and solid play on the court. Swaziek played in every set again this year for the third season of her career. Only an injury during last season prevented her from playing in every set of her colligate career. Swaziek, a math and secondary education major, tied for the team lead in block assists (36), and finished second on the team in kills (174), attacks (504), block solos (7), and total blocks (43).
Heather Goodrich (Tinley Park, Ill./Victor J Andrew) was named to the NAC All-Sportsmanship Team. Goodrich was a force at the net this season for the Regents. She led the team in total blocks (43) and block solos (21) , along with tying for the team led in block assists (36).
Rockford finished the 2010 season with a 7-17 (6-6 NAC) record.
