Winless Rockford College faces a difficult task today when the Regents take on NAC leader Benedictine.

And, a rash of injuries have added to the challenge.

"We are really banged up,” Rockford interim coach Patrick Babcock said. "We started with a 60-man roster, but we practiced (Wednesday) with 15 less than that, and nine of the 15 were starters at the beginning of the season.”

Benedictine’s offense ranks second in the NAC for points (36.9 a game), passing (237 yards), rushing (167 yards) and total yards (404).

John Borsellino leads Benedictine’s running game with 741 yards on 175 carries and 14 TDs. The sophomore had transferred to Illinois State after his freshman season and tried to walk on the football team there. The ISU hopes didn’t materialize, and he is back at Benedictine.

"He is a difference maker,” Babcock said. "And they try to find a whole lot of ways to get him the football. We will need to know where he is every snap.”

QB Earl Preston has thrown for 1,390 yards and 16 TDs.

Rockford’s rushing defense is fifth in the NAC, allowing 137 yards per game. Josh Ross leads Rockford’s defense with 70 tackles.

The Regents’ offense has struggled in the second half of the season, scoring just seven points in the past five games.

"There have been a lot of people banged up on offense, including myself,” said senior Regent running back Jason Hosey. "So there hasn’t been much continuity this week in practice. But hopefully we can kick it up and get it going (today).”
