Weekend best bets: Dancers, ghosts and trick or treat

They can dance!

"So You Think You Can Dance” hits the stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the MetroCentre, 300 Elm St., Rockford.

The show will feature this season’s finalists performing the most popular routines in hip-hop, contemporary, ballroom, tango, Broadway, salsa and more as well as original pieces created specifically for the nationwide tour.

Let's get spooky

A ghost tour, horror show, "The Monster Mash,” a masquerade party and costume parade await you this Halloween weekend in the Rock River Valley:

Coronado Spirited Ghost Tours, 9 p.m. Friday, Coronado Performing Arts Center, 314 N. Main St., Rockford. The tour is hosted by the Land of Lincoln Theatre Organ Society. Experience first-hand accounts of the unexplained noises, scents and sightings within the Coronado, along with a historic tour of the building. Cost is $10. "The Rocky Horror Picture Show” will be shown at 11:30 p.m. Friday at Rockford College, Maddox Theatre, 5050 E. State St. Sponsored by the college’s Regent Players, the interactive show includes a prop bag for those who make a donation to the group. Concessions will be available, and appropriate costumes are encouraged. The event is free and open to the community. Reservations requested. 815-226-4100.

Rockford Symphony Orchestra’s Halloween Pops will be from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Coronado Performing Arts Center, 314 N. Main St., Rockford. Come in costume. Enjoy pop culture favorites, including "The Monster Mash,” as well as spine-tingling classics and Edgar Allan Poe readings by New York City actor Joshua Kane. The Rock City Unique Steppers Steppin and Old School Masquerade Party will be from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday at JT’s Bourbon Street Grille, 1407 N. Main St., Rockford. Stepping and line dancing, hors d’oeuvres, music and costume contest with prizes will be available. Cost is $5. 815-209-3741;

The second annual Halloween Parade presented by the Loves Park Police Association will be Sunday. Lineup starts at 1 p.m. at the PNC Bank parking lot at Riverside Boulevard and Jensen Drive, behind the main bank, in Loves Park. Participants in costumes will walk south on Jensen and east on Loves Park Drive to the police station parking lot. All ages are welcome, including adults. There’ll be treats for everyone. There is no fee to participate.

Haunted houses open
