Monday, October 25, 2010
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Rockford College volleyball team continued their recent streak of solid play on Saturday with a three set win over Alverno College to secure a spot in the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament. After a disappointing start, the Regents seem to be hitting their stride, winning five of their last seven NAC matches, improving their conference record to 5-6.
Rockford displayed a balanced attack with six players recording at least two kills, three players, senior Melissa Swaziek (Loves Park, Ill./ Harlem) and sophomores Emily Kaufman (Seneca, Ill./ Seneca) and Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./ Pearl City) notching at least seven. Junior Courtney Pehl (Freeport, Ill./ Freeport) recorded 23 assists. Kaufman and Pehl also recorded six service aces each.
Rockford will close their regular season on Tuesday, October 26 with a visit from the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders. With both teams fighting for postseason position, the 7:00 p.m. match will determine the seventh and eighth seeds for the NAC tournament.
