ROCKFORD, Ill. – Every Rockford College volleyball match during October has taken on a special meaning. Not only are the Regents battling to qualify for the Northern Athletics Conference post-season tournament, the ladies are doing their part to raise money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer.  October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

When the Regents host the MSOE Raiders on Saturday, October 9, the Regents volleyball team and the Rockford College Jane Addams Center for Civic Engagement will be selling t-shirts and pink bracelets with all proceeds donated to the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event.  All fans in attendance are also asked to wear pink.  The match is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Seaver Center for Physical Education and Recreation on the campus of Rockford College.

"Cancer in general, and breast cancer specifically, has affected so lives many in our community,” said Rockford college interim Athletic Director Kristyn King.  "This event, organized by our students, is a great way to combine their love for Regents volleyball while doing something that hopefully can help change their world.”

For the last several years, Regents athletic teams have been very active in raising money and donating time in the fight against breast cancer, including volunteering at the local Making Strides for Breast Cancer events.  Volleyball teams from the Northern Athletics Conference have also been active in the national "Dig for Life” program since the conference’s inception in 2006.
