ROCKFORD — Still stinging from a 31-21 defeat against Loras, Rockford College will try to snap a two-game losing streak to Alma today.
The Regents (0-2) fell behind 17-0 against Loras in the first quarter last Saturday and were unable to catch up.
"We found a way to be competitive, but at some point we have to move from being happy to be competitive to a program that wants to win those football games,” said interim head coach Patrick "Bucky” Babcock. "We are improving week to week and day to day, but we have to put our foot on the gas pedal and accelerate a little bit.”
The Regents rallied against Loras with three TD pass by junior QB Tyler Baran, while the defense stiffened against Loras’ passing game.
"We weren’t happy coming away without a win, but we felt like we made a good amount of progress so we are just trying to build upon that,” said senior offensive lineman Greg Wilken.
Alma (0-2) is coming off a 35-14 loss to No. 24 Illinois Wesleyan. The Scots also had a slow start in the loss, falling behind 28-0.
Alma’s freshman quarterback Ross Richard has four passing touchdowns and is 24-of-50 for the season with three interceptions. His top target is senior wide receiver Andrew Schaar, who has nine catches for 121 yards and two TDs.
Alma has beaten Rockford in their only two meetings 59-21 and 51-3.
