ROCKFORD —
Rockford College students volunteered for about two hours Wednesday morning to help guests at The Carpenter’s Place make scarves.

The college chose the homeless shelter as its Star Community Partner this year through the Jane Addams Center for Civic Engagement. The group has previously worked with the YMCA and Rockford Rescue Mission.

Carpenter’s Place guest Amanda McCue was working on a blue and white scarf and said she regularly participates in the craft projects.

"I want them to know this is a good program they’ve got going on here,” McCue said.

Through the partnership, students plan a volunteer event once each month, including a Christmas dinner, said Lindsay Kent, director of student activities at the Jane Addams Center.

"Carpenter’s Place seemed like a good place for our students,” she said.
