Regents Runners off to Good Start

ELGIN, Ill. – The Rockford College cross country programs got off to a blazing start on Saturday at the Judson College Tune-Up. Record on both the men’s and women’s sides fell at the dual meet held at Elgin Community College.
In the women’s 4K race, freshman Genesis Cerrato (Las Vegas, Nev./ Valley) kicked off her collegiate career in stylish fashion, placing first in a time of 15:47, establishing a Rockford College record for the distance. Cerrato wasn’t alone at the top of the standings. Junior Erin Stoffregen (Rockford, Ill./ Boylan Catholic) finished second with a time of 16:14. Freshmen Taylor Inghram (Las Vegas, Nev./ Arbor View) and Barbara Duffy (Tampico, Ill./ Prophetstown) finished in seventh and eighth places, respectively.
Junior Tyler Mendenhall (Prophetstown, Ill./ Prophetstown) narrowly missed a victory in the men’s 6K race, finishing third in a time of 21:03, just six seconds off the pace and establishing a Rockford record at the distance. Senior Randy Ebert (Belvidere, Ill./ Marengo) finished in sixth place with a time of 21:43. Sophomore Eric Woelbling (Flourissant, Mo./ McCleur North) and freshman Tim Caudle (Lillington, N.C./ Overhills) finished 12th and 14th.
The Regents will return to action on Saturday, September 18 when they travel to Mequon, Wis. to run in the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcon Invitational.
