Chase Fisher, a first/third basemen for Reed-Custer's baseball team last season, and Jake Hayes, a pitcher for the Comets, are going on to play college baseball.

Fisher is heading to Rockford College where he will double major in social studies and spanish with a minor in secondary education.

He was considering Milikin University, the University of St. Francis and Carthage College but liked what he saw at Rockford on his visit.

"I'm a small-town person and even though Rockford isn't a small town, the school is small and I like that," Fisher said. "I really liked the coaches and I have a buddy who I played with on a summer team that is on the team there."

Fisher credits his dad with helping him throughout his time playing baseball.

"My dad has been there for me since T-Ball, telling me when I was doing something wrong and helping me improve," said Fisher.

He also credits head baseball coach Jerry Cougill with helping him become the player he did in high school.

Hayes signed a letter of intent with Illinois Valley Community College where he will be majoring in special education.

IVCC was the right fit for Hayes who didn't visit any other colleges.

"I chose IVCC because my friends went there and said they had a fun time and they thought I could make it and I did," Hayes said. "It seemed like a good school when I visited and the coach is nice."

Hayes also acknowledges his dad with helping him become a better player.

"He coached me up until middle school ball. He was there almost every game telling me what I needed to improve on," said Hayes.

He also commended Cougill for making him the player he is now.

Hayes' favorite moment from his senior season was almost throwing a no-hitter against Herscher.

"The no-hitter was broken up in the seventh inning with two outs, two strikes and the kid blooped it in."
