ROCKFORD, Ill. – The honors for members of the Rockford College baseball continued over the weekend, when two Regents’ seniors capped their careers with regional and national honors. Third baseman Kyle Standridge (Carol Stream, Ill./ Glenbard North) and outfielder Eric Nicholson (Stillman Valley, Ill./ Rock Valley CC) were named to the 2010 American Baseball Coaches Association All-Midwest Team, ranking them among the region’s 50 best baseball players.
Standridge, already named the Northern Athletics Conference Position Player of the Year, added ABCA Midwest Region Position Player of the Year and ABCA Second Team All-American honors to his mantle. Standridge becomes the second Regents player under Head Coach Bob Koopmann to be named to the ABCA All-Region First Team, joining Fabian Gomez and Tim Rowe in 2007. Standridge was the catalyst for the Regents offense, highlighted by his 42 game hitting streak, the third longest in the history of Division III baseball. The physical education major ranked among the best in the nation in batting average, hits, runs, and triples, while leading the nation with 1.64 runs scored per game.
Nicholson brought a combination of power and speed to the Regents’ line-up, while still hitting for a high average. The senior led the Regents with eight home runs while maintaining a .405 batting average. Nicholson was also a menace on the base paths, going a perfect 18-18 in stolen bases. The business major also ranked among the NAC’s best in slugging percentage, RBI’s, and total bases.
Standridge and Nicholson were among nine players from the Northern Athletics Conference named to the ABCA All-Midwest Region Teams.
