Standridge Leads 6 Regents on All-NAC Baseball Teams

ROCKFORD, Ill. – After coming up just short of their third Northern Athletics Conference title, five members of the Rockford College baseball team began to garner individual accolades for their performances during the 2010 campaign. Six Regents were named among the conference best players, including senior third baseman Kyle Standridge who was named NAC Position Player of the Year. This marks the fourth major NAC baseball award won by the Regents, joining Coach Bob Koopmann (2007 coach of the Year), Fabian Gomez (2007 Player of the Year), and Jimmy Dercks (2009 Freshman of the Year).

Kyle Standridge (Carol Stream, Ill./ Glenbard North) is arguably among the best Division III hitters in the country. The senior physical education major leads the nation with 89 hits and ranks second in runs (69), runs per game (1.64), third in triples (9), and 17th in batting average (0.473). Hit most impressive feat during the year was hitting safely in all 42 games during the Regents’ season, placing his streak tied for third longest in the history of Division III baseball.

Outfielder Eric Nicholson (Stillman Valley, Ill./ Stillman Valley) was named to the NAC 1st Team, after providing much of the power in the Regents line-up, while maintaining a .405 batting average and leading Rockford with 18 steals in 18 attempts. The business management major ranked among the NAC’s top 10 in slugging percentage (.748), RBI’s (#8 – 46), and total bases.

Mike Catalano (Chicago, Ill./ Notre Dame) received All-NAC Honorable Mention for his performance as Rockford’s designated hitter. After suffering through shoulder injuries much of the last two seasons, the senior physical education major rebounded with a .305 batting average with five home runs and 34 RBI’s.

Senior pitcher Kevin Patterson (Rockford, Ill./ Lincoln-Way Central) also received Honorable Mention. The education major tied for the NAC lead with 8 wins against only two losses on the year in his 11 appearances. The southpaw led the Regents with 55.1 innings pitched and recorded 50 strikeouts against only 19 walks.

TJ Stanfield (Mokena, Ill./ Joliet JC) received Honorable Mention as an outfielder after batting .407 during his senior season. The social science major ranked among the Regents top three in hits (#2 – 68), runs (#3 – 49), and RBI’s (#2 – 48).

Junior catcher Jordan Shaver (Davis Junction, Ill./ Rock Valley CC) was named to the NAC All-Sportsmanship Team after boasting a .975 fielding percentage and committing just four errors in his first year as Rockford’s starting catcher.

Rockford finished the 2010 season 27-14-1 (17-5) after making their fourth consecutive appearance in the NAC Tournament.
