LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford College baseball season came to a disappointing end today with an 8-2 loss at the hands of the Edgewood College Eagles.

The game began as a pitcher’s duel, with both hurlers keeping clean sheets through the fifth inning. The Eagles opened the scoring with three runs in the sixth inning. The Regents responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on RBI’s by seniors Mike Catalano (Chicago, Ill./ Notre Dame) and Kyle Standridge (Carol Stream, Ill./ Glenbard North), cutting the Eagles lead to 3-2.

The Regents found themselves in an insurmountable hole as the Eagles added five runs in the eighth and ninth innings on a home run, three doubles, and three walks.

The Regents scored two runs on nine hits, three by senior TJ Stanfield (Mokena, Ill./ Joliet JC).

Standridge ended his career on a high note. He recorded his only hit in his final at bat, extending his record hit streak to 42 games, tying him for the third longest streak in the history of Division III baseball.

Rockford finished the 2010 season 27-14-1 (17-5 NAC).
