LOVES PARK, Ill. – Tuesday’s game against Illinois Wesleyan certainly was not the way the Regents wanted to celebrate the careers of their 12 senior players. Rockford suffered a disappointing 16-6 loss at the hands of the Titans on Senior Day.
Trailing 3-0 in the third inning, Rockford got on the board when senior Kyle Standridge’s (Carol Stream, Ill./ Glenbard North) triple scored junior second baseman Jimmy Polster (Spring Valley, Ill./ St. Bede). Standridge then crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by senior Tyler Clay (Sammamish, Wash./ Eastlake). By the time the Regents even got a runner to third base in the seventh inning, they faced a tremendous uphill battle, trailing 16-2.
The Regents, however, did not go without a fight, plating four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Standridge opened the inning with his second triple of the game, followed by an RBI single by Clay. Senior TJ Stanfield (Mokena, Ill./ Joliet JC) plated Clay with a single. Fellow senior Mike Catalano (Chicago, Ill./ Notre Dame) cleared the bases with a towering two-run home run to straightaway center field.
The Regents will travel to Naperville, Ill. on Wednesday to face #22 North Central College at 3:00 p.m. before closing the regular season with a trip to Lisle, Ill. to face the Benedictine Eagles on Saturday.
