Who is he? Dan Voll, 53, is a professional guitarist who teaches at Rockford College and Randee’s Music and performs regularly in the Rockford area.
Where do you perform? I am a member of the Blue Gills Band. I perform regularly as a solo artist and play in praise bands at St. Mark’s Lutheran, Heartland and Union Cross.
What inspires you? I was inspired to take up the guitar after seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan’s show. Now I’m inspired by God to work with him and enjoy life.
What is up next for you? I just put out a solo acoustic-guitar instrumental CD. It’s available at Randee’s Music, 4116 Morsay Drive in Rockford, and at my gigs. For a schedule of my performances, go to myspace.com/DanVoll or Reverbnation.com/DanVoll.
What is the best part and most challenging part of your job? I’m really enjoying performing these days. The most challenging part is teaching guitar and getting students hooked on a song or style to get them to practice and have fun.
What is your favorite song? There are too many genres and styles to just pick one, but I do think that Bach’s "Air on a G String” is what you hear at the gates of heaven.
Best advice you have received: Believe in a power greater than yourself. Also, find a job you really love so you never have to work again.
Favorite vacation spot: I love going to Fernandina Beach, Fla. I’ll be performing there April 30 through May 2 at Shrimpfest. I love traveling, playing my guitar and meeting new friends.
Who is your hero? Tom Morgan. He tirelessly helps out guys like me to get the most out of life and really enjoy life on life’s terms.
One food you can’t live without: Pizza.
Your favorite place in the Rock River Valley: The Cherry Valley area.
