Green expos on tap this weekend

Two free expos celebrating Earth Day and going green will be at two Rockford colleges this weekend:
Rockford College Green Expo, 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Rockford College’s Burpee Center, 5050 E. State St. As part of Green Week at the college, 15 local vendors, groups and businesses will promote ways to go green. The event is sponsored by the Jane Addams Center for Civic Engagement. rockford.edu, 815-394-5143.
Earth Day at Rock Valley College, noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Rock Valley College Physical Education Center, 3301 N. Mulford Road. About 65 vendors will be on site with activities and displays. More than a dozen workshops will feature topics ranging from green living to rain gardens to how to grow your own vegetables. Recycling and money-saving tips also will be provided. A thousand trees will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis. Only one per family. 815-921-4451.
