ROCKFORD, Ill. – For the third consecutive week, a member of the Rockford College baseball team has been named Northern Athletics Conference Student-Athlete of the Week. Senior Matt Bates (Brisbane, AU/ St. Thomas More) was named Pitcher of the Week. Bates joins fellow seniors Kyle Standridge (Carol Stream, Ill./ Glenbard North), who was named position player of the week the last two weeks, and Mike Catalano (Chicago, Ill./ Notre Dame) as Regents to win the award this season.

Bates, a mathematics major, threw a gem in his lone start last week. In a battle of two of the best teams in the NAC, Bates pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on five hits, while striking out seven. Rockford’s 2-1 victory game the Regents a one game lead in the NAC standings.

Bates, 3-2 on the season, leads the Regents with 45 innings pitched and 53 strikeouts. Those strikeouts rank Bates among the best in the NAC and when extended to strikeouts per nine innings, rank Bates among the best in the nation.

The Regents will return to the field on Wednesday, April 28, when they host the MSOE Raiders at Road Ranger Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
