Records Fall at Viking Invite

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Rockford College track team opened the outdoor portion of their 2010 season with a record breaking effort at the Augustana College Viking Invitational on Saturday. The Regents broke or set five records during the meet.
Junior Matt Lindgren (Oak Forest, Ill./ Oak Forest) set a new record in the 1500 meters, winning the race in a time of 4:01.93, shaving over three seconds off the previous record. Freshman Jerry Lewis (Bloomington, Ill./ NWC) now owns both Rockford’s indoor and outdoor speed records after Saturday’s 10th place finish in the 100M with a time of 11.46 seconds. Sophomore Bobby Tassone (Sandwich, Ill./ Sandwich) established a men’s long jump record with a distance of 5.24 meters.
Two Regents’ ladies also got into the act. Juniors Heather Goodrich (Tinley Park, Ill./ Victor J. Andrew) and Maribel Guerrero (St. Elmo, Ill./ St. Elmo) also broke records. Goodrich established an outdoor triple jump record of 9.21 meters and now holds both the indoor and outdoor records in the event. Guerrero established a new 100 meter record with a time of 15.92 seconds.
The Regents will travel to the University of Chicago on Saturday to run in the Ted Haydon Invitational.
