Musician and feminist Meredith LeVande will present a multimedia presentation "Women, Pop Music, & Pornography,” March 17 at noon at Rockford College’s Burpee Center, Grace Roper Lounge.
The presentation explores why representations of women in popular culture are growing increasingly pornographic and hyper-sexualized.
About her talk at the college, LeVande says…”when students can see that they are actively being pursued by advertisers and media companies to get them to adopt a certain lifestyle, they begin to think twice about how their choices are shaped.”
The talk is a Women’s History Month event co-sponsored by the college’s Jane Addams Center for Civic Engagement and the student activities office. It is free and open to the public. For more information, call 815-394-4382.
