ROCKFORD (WREX) - As college students gear up for spring break, they're also reminded to stay safe.

It's Safe Spring Break week at Rockford College. Each day there are different activities simulating experiences students are faced with.

Many students leave for warmer climates for break, so today's topic was safe travel.

"What we've been trying to do all week is break the mold of the typical, what people think about spring break or what they see on MTV or whatnot, and just emphasize that people do do other things, safe and productive things over spring break," Rockford College Graduate Student Chris Haab said.

One group of students will be doing volunteer work in Mississippi for the Alternative Spring Break Program.
