3 Regents Men Honored As All-NAC Hoops

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Though the Rockford College men’s basketball team’s season finished a few games earlier than they wanted, several members of the team were included when the Northern Athletics Conference released its list of 2009-10 All-Northern Athletics Conference teams. Regents players honored by the NAC coaches include Robert Malone, Danny Armelin, Jr., and Andrew Weber.
Robert Malone (Stephens, Ark./ Stephens), a junior physical education major, was named to the NAC Second Team. This season, he led the Regents in both scoring (20.5 ppg.) and rebounding (7.3 rpg.), both ranked among the best in the NAC. Malone led the Regents in scoring 12 times and rebounding 11 times. Malone also recorded four double-doubles, including 29 points and 17 rebounds in a 90-82 win over Clarke College and 34 points, 11 rebounds in a 85-82 win at Marian University.
Danny Armelin, Jr. (Gonzales, Texas, Gonzales), senior physical education major who garnered Honorable Mention from NAC coaches, averaged 17.2 points for the Regents. Armelin ranked among the conference’s best performers in several statistical categories, including scoring (5th – 17.2 ppg.), assists (10th – 3.0 apg.), free throw percentage (8th – 81.5%), and steals (7th – 1.9 spg.).
Andrew Weber (Roscoe, Ill./ Boylan), a senior mathematics major, was named to the All-Sportsmanship team for the second consecutive year. Weber’s all-around game paced the Regents to the tune of 10.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.0 steals in 34.3 minutes per game.
Rockford finished the 2009-10 campaign 14-12, bowing out of the NAC postseason tournament after a first-round loss.
