Rockford, Ill. – With the regular season completed, the Rockford College basketball teams now prepare for their own February frenzy, the Northern Athletics Conference tournaments. For the second consecutive year, both the Regents’ women’s and men’s teams will make postseason appearances.
The Regents’ men will open their tournament on Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. game at MSOE in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Rockford enters the tournament as one of the hottest teams in the NAC, winners of five of their last six. Rockford ranks among the NAC’s best in scoring (77.0 ppg.), shooting percentage (47.9%), and free throw percentage (74.5%), while boasting two of the five top scorers in Robert Malone (Stephens, Ark./ Stephens) (20.5 ppg.) and Danny Armelin (Gonzales, Texas/ Gonzales) (17.37 ppg.). The Regents defeated MSOE 61-57 back in December at Rockford’s Seaver Center.
Rockford’s ladies will open their postseason action on Wednesday with a trip to Wisconsin Lutheran College for a 7:00 p.m. game. The Rents are coming off their first back-to-back wins of the campaign, in last week’s road wins at Marian and at MSOE. Rockford is led by junior Megan Lawler’s (Pearl City, Ill./ Pearl City) 15.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. Sophomore Britney Curry (Merrillville, Ind./ Merrillville) adds 14.6 points and 6.3 boards per game for the Regents. Rockford lost at Wisconsin Lutheran 71-58 in December, a game in which Curry recorded 24 points and Lawler recorded a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
