Rockford, Ill. – With both teams already having solidified their places in their respective conference tournament, the Rockford College women’s and men’s basketball teams will close their regular seasons on Saturday with the annual Northern Athletic Conference Challenge Games.
Fresh off last night’s 67-58 victory at Marian, the Regents women will travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a 2:00 p.m. tilt with the MSOE Raiders. Rockford defeated MSOE 75-69 in Rockford’s Seaver Center on December 5, 2009. Sophomore Britney Curry (Merrillville, Ind./ Merrillville) led four Regents in double-figure scoring with 23 points. Junior Megan Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./ Pearl City) added 13 points and 14 boards. Freshman Erika McCall (Henry, Ill./ Henry Senachwine) chipped in with 14 points off the bench.
Having won four of their last five games, including Tuesday’s 76-68 home win over Lakeland, the Rockford men’s team will travel to River Forest, Illinois to face Concordia University Chicago at 4:15 p.m. Rockford fell to the visiting Cougars back on January 9. Junior Tyler Nauman (Hinckley, Ill./ Hinckley-Big Rock) led the home team with a career-high 17 points. Senior Danny Armelin (Gonzales, Texas/ Gonzales) and junior Robert Malone (Stephens, Ark./ Stephens) combined for 25 points for Rockford.
Both teams will make their post-season tournament runs on the road. The men will open their tournament of Tuesday and the ladies on Wednesday, both playing at 7:00 p.m. Locations for each game will determined, pending results from Saturday’s challenge games.
