Regents Silence Crusaders

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford College men’s basketball team won their second consecutive wire-to-wire game on Tuesday, as they defeated the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders 82-64 at the Seaver Center.
The Crusaders opened the scoring, but a Rockford 30 second timeout just one minute into play changed the course of the game. The Regents went on a 16-2 run and by the middle of the half had established a 20 point advantage. On the strength of 17 points of 10 Crusader turnovers and 65.5% shooting from the field, Rockford had a 52-26 lead at the break.
Just five minutes into the second half, the Regents pushed their lead to a game-high 30 points, but the Crusaders responded with a 18-2 run, trimming Rockford’s lead to 71-57 with less than five minutes to play. Rockford responded with a 9-2 run of their own to stem the Crusaders’ tide.
Senior guard Andrew Weber (Roscoe, Ill./ Boylan) led four Regents in double figure scoring with 18 points and seven rebounds. Junior forward Robert Malone (Stephens, Ark./ Stephens) added 16 and seven. Senior Leon Alford (Chicago, Ill./ St. Laurence) and junior Tyler Nauman (Hinckley, Ill./ Hinckley-Big Rock) tallied 15 and 12 points respectively. Senior Randon Williams (Chicago, Ill./ Westinghouse) recorded six points, six rebounds, seven assists, and five steals.
The Regents will return to action on Wednesday, February 10 when they travel to Fond du Lac, Wis. for face the Marian University Sabers.
