ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford College men’s basketball team won their second consecutive wire-to-wire game on Tuesday, as they defeated the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders 82-64 at the Seaver Center.
The Crusaders opened the scoring, but a Rockford 30 second timeout just one minute into play changed the course of the game. The Regents went on a 16-2 run and by the middle of the half had established a 20 point advantage. On the strength of 17 points of 10 Crusader turnovers and 65.5% shooting from the field, Rockford had a 52-26 lead at the break.
Just five minutes into the second half, the Regents pushed their lead to a game-high 30 points, but the Crusaders responded with a 18-2 run, trimming Rockford’s lead to 71-57 with less than five minutes to play. Rockford responded with a 9-2 run of their own to stem the Crusaders’ tide.
Senior guard Andrew Weber (Roscoe, Ill./ Boylan) led four Regents in double figure scoring with 18 points and seven rebounds. Junior forward Robert Malone (Stephens, Ark./ Stephens) added 16 and seven.
