ROCKFORD, Ill. - Playing without their leading scorer and rebounder, the Rockford College women’s basketball team used a complete team effort in a 61-56 wire to wire victory over the visiting Aurora University Spartans on Saturday. Playing without injured junior Megan Lawler, the Regents employed a balanced offensive attack and relentless defense. Every Regents player notched at least 19 minutes on the floor and tallied at least four points and three rebounds.
Sophomore Britney Curry (Merrillville, Ind./ Merrillville) led the Regents with 20 points on 10-19 shooting. In her first collegiate start, freshman Erika McCall (Henry, Ill./ Henry Senachwine) scored 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Senior Danielle Townsend (Machesney Park, Ill/ Boylan) grabbed a game-high 11 boards. Defensively, Rockford held the Spartans to just 35% shooting and forced 20 turnovers.
Rockford will hit the road on Tuesday to face Lakeland College in Sheboygan, Wis.
