RC psych prof presents research on nurse burnout
Dr. Belinda Wholeben, professor of psychology at Rockford College, presented research on nurse burnout recently to hospital administrators from the Chicago area at a meeting in Oak Brook. The report, entitled "Burnout and Deferred Empathy among Critical Care Nurses: A Multi-Site Study,” was conducted in four Chicago area hospitals. The study showed how hospitals could benefit by understanding the relationship between nurse burnout and deferred empathy. Dr. Christine Bruun, psychology department chair, collaborated on the research.
Two RC art profs exhibit in out of town venues
Philip Soosloff, associate professor of art at Rockford College, exhibited at the 16th annual International Exposition of Sculpture Objects and Functional Art (SOFA) in Chicago in November at Navy Pier. Soosloff had eight pieces on display at a booth operated by the Thomas R. Riley Galleries of Cleveland, Ohio. The event presented works from 68 top international dealers and galleries from 10 countries. 
Dave Menard, assistant professor of art, recently presented a solo art exhibit of 10 drawings in the Spencer Gallery at the University of Arkansas, Monticello. The work was a series entitled "Bread and Circuses,” revolving around the myth of the American suburban dream.
Prof. Warner attends technology conference
Thelma Warner, nursing, attended the 4th National League for Nursing Technology Conference at Johns Hopkins University College of Nursing in Baltimore recently. Highlights of the conference included a tour of the college’s simulation laboratory, and sessions entitled "Handheld Computer in Classes and Clinical," "Classroom Response Systems: When Everything Just Clicks," and "Incorporating Authenticity and Complexity in Sim Scenarios.” The opportunity was funded through the IBHE fellowship Professor Warner received.
