ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford College men’s basketball team dropped its second consecutive game on Saturday 84-76 to visiting Edgewood College. The game’s opening half was a nip and tuck affair, evidenced by seven ties and 10 lead changes in the first half. Rockford had a definite edge in the paint with a 26-12 scoring advantage, but Edgewood’s superior outside shooting (6-10 from three-point range) kept the game tight. After 20 minutes, the Regents trailed by only two points, 37-35.
After an early three-pointer by Taylor Stinson (Schiller Park, Ill./ East Leyden) to give Rockford a three point lead, the Eagles took control of the game. Six consecutive Edgewood points game them the momentum and they did not give it up. The Regents managed to cut the Eagles lead from a game-high 12 back to six with under a minute to play, but five consecutive made fee throws iced the game.
Senior Garrett Staniec (Glenview, Ill./ Glenbrook South) led four Regents in double-figure scoring with 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Fellow senior Danny Armelin (Gonzales, Texas/ Gonzales) added 17 points. Andrew Weber (Roscoe, Ill./ Boylan) and Randon Williams (Chicago, Ill./ Westinghouse) added 12 and 10 points respectively.
