ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford College women’s basketball team continued their solid play on Saturday as the defeated the visiting Concordia University Chicago Cougars 61-56 at the Seaver Center.

The game was a tight affair for the entire 40 minutes.  Rockford jumped out to a quick lead, scoring the game’s first four points.  Rockford managed to extend their lead to six for a brief moment, but the Cougars immediately responded.  Rockford shot just 30.4% from the floor before the break, but 12-14 from the free throw line helped Rockford to a slim 29-28 advantage at the half.

The second half played much like the first, with neither team fully able to establish control of the game.  Each time Concordia tried to chip away at Rockford’s lead, the Regents responded with a big shot or defensive stop.  Concordia took a slim two point lead with less than four minutes left, but Rockford responded with a 9-0 run to put the game away.

Sophomore Britney Curry (Merrillville, Ind./ Merrillville) led three Regents in double figure scoring with 18 points, while grabbing seven rebounds and four steals.  Megan Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./ Pearl City) tallied 17 points, grabbed eight rebounds, recorded five steals, and blocked three shots.  Melissa Swaziek (Loves Park, Ill./ Harlem) added 10 points for Rockford.

Rockford will host the Marian University Sabers on Tuesday night at the Seaver Center.
