BELOIT, Wis. - After a two week layoff, the Rockford College women’s basketball opened the second half of the season on the right foot.  The Regents wire-to-wire for a 56-45 victory over state-line rival Beloit College, improving their record to 3-8 on the season.

Rockford wasted little time, scoring the game’s first four point, all by sophomore guard Britney Curry (Merrillville, Ind./ Merrillville).  The Regents maintained that cushion until late in the half when the Buccaneers cut the Rockford lead to one point with 30 seconds to play.  But at the half time buzzer, Rockford junior Melissa Swaziek (Loves Park, Ill./ Harlem) connected from 25 feet out to establish Rockford’s halftime lead at 23-19.  Rockford’s defense held Beloit to 29.2% shooting from the floor, while Curry paced the Regents’ offense with 10 points.

The Regents continued their solid defense and offensive efficiency after the break.  Rockford held Beloit to 33.3% shooting in the second half.  Beloit continued to chip away at Rockford’s lead, but every time the Buccaneers got close, Rockford managed to connect on a big bucket to regain momentum. Rockford connected on their final eight free throws to ice the 56-45 victory. Junior forward Megan Lawler (Rearl City, Ill./ Pearl City) controlled the paint for the Regents with 10 points and seven boards in the stanza.

For the game, Lawler led Rockford with 15 points, while Curry poured in 14.  Lawler also grabbed 9 rebounds.  Freshman reserve Erika McCall (Henry, Ill./ Henry Senachwine) added eight points for the Regents.

Rockford will travel to Galesburg, Ill. on Wednesday, January 6 to face Knox College.
