ROCKFORD, Ill. – After last week’s disappointing loss at Wisconsin Lutheran College, the Rockford College men’s basketball team got back to complete team play in Friday night’s 93-67 victory over Knox College at Rockford College’s Seaver Center.
From the opening tip, Rockford began to exert their inside presence and ball movement scoring their first eight points on assisted lay-ups. That would prove to be an on-going theme throughout the game’s 40 minutes. Rockford’s first half dominance was not only shown in their 49-25 advantage on the scoreboard , but also in their 24-10 lead in the paint, 13-2 gap in points off turnovers, and 13 assists on 19 made baskets. Eight players scored in the game’s first 20 minutes for the Regents, led by nine points from Taylor Stinson (Schiller Park, Ill./ East Leyden) and Garrett Staniec (Glenview, Ill./ Glenbrook South). Guard Andrew Weber (Roscos, Ill./ Boylan) paced Rockford’s offense with 12 assists, while Staniec single-handedly outrebounded the Prairie Fire 9-7.
The second half was much of the same for the Regents. Rockford forced 11 Knox turnovers, while shooting 46.7% from the field and 12-13 from the free throw line. By game’s end, 12 Regents had entered the game, with 11 marking tallies in either the scoring or rebounding columns.
Stinson and Robert Malone (Stephens, Ark./Stephens) led four Regents in double figures with 15 points each. Danny Armelin (Gonzales, Tex./ Gonzales) added 14 and Randon Williams (Chicago, Ill./ Westinghouse) notched 12. Staniec finished with 11 rebounds and Weber with 15 assists.
Rockford will take a break for the Christmas holiday before returnng to the court on December 30, when they travel to Naperville, Ill. to face North Central College.
