MEQUON, Wis. – After two consecutive games in which the Regents failed to put together two halves of solid basketball, the Rockford College women’s basketball team finally played forty minutes of hoops but came up just short, falling 68-61 at Concordia University Wisconsin.  The loss drops the Regents overall record to 0-5 (0-2 NAC).

Most of the first half was played evenly, as both teams tried to establish their games.  Midway through the stanza, the Falcons gained some level of control with an 11-0 run, establishing a 26-16 lead with 6:44 remaining in the half.  Rockford continued to chip away at the deficit, eventually cutting it to six by the break.

The game’s second half was much of the same.  The Concordia advantage ranged between six and 10 points, but the Regents could not come up with the big shot to make significant progress.  A layup by junior Melissa Swaziek (Loves Park, Ill./ Harlem) cut the deficit to three with 3:34 to play, but four quick Falcons points extended the lead back to an insurmountable seven points.

Junior Megan Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./ Pearl City) recorded her second double-double of the season with a career-high 29 points on 13-17 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Regents.  Sophomore guard Britney Curry (Merrillville, Ind./ Merrillville) added 15 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.

Rockford will return to the comfy confines of the Seaver Center on Saturday, December 5, when they host MSOE as part of a Northern Athletics Conference women’s and men’s basketball doubleheader.  The ladies will open the action at 2:00 p.m., with the men to follow at 4:15 p.m.
