Deadrick Wins No. 200

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – St. Scholastica women’s basketball head coach Stacy Deadrick won her 200th game at CSS as the Saints rallied to defeat Rockford College this afternoon 79-66 in the consolation game of the Pointer Tip-off, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Deadrick is in her 16th season at the helm of the CSS women’s basketball program. She also was standout for the Saints as a player from 1987-91. The Saints improve to 2-1 on the year, while the Regents fall to 0-3. This was the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

St. Scholastica led by seven with 14:29 left in the first half. However later the in half, the Regents went on an 8-0 run to take the lead and went into the locker room with a 35-29 lead.

The Saints shot just 30-percent from the field in the first half, while the Regents shot 54-percent. Rockford committed 16 turnovers in the half.

CSS came out of the locker room and scored the first five points to cut the lead to one. A little later, the Saints went on a 19-4 run to take a 55-42 lead with 11 minutes to go. The margin got as high as 14, but Regents would cut it down to seven with two minutes left. However, the Saints put the game away going 10-for-10 from the free throw line in final two minutes to win by a score of 79-66.

The Saints shot 45-percent in the second half, including going 5-for-9 on 3-point attempts. The Regents shot 26-percent in the half. CSS finished 23-for-24 from the free throw line for the game.

Kirsten Haukom (Sr.-Marshall, Minn.) matched a career-high with 23 points to lead all-scorers. Haukom who also led the Saints in scoring last night was named to the all-tournament team. Katie Christensen (Sr.-Elk River, Minn.) added 17 points and went 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Laura Amys (So.-South Range, Wis./Superior) and Bri Allen (Fr.-West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) each added 11 points. Haukom and Amys each had a team-high eight rebounds. Britney Curry led Rockford with 15 points.

The Saints will have their home opener on Tuesday at Reif Gym when it hosts bridge rival University of Wisconsin-Superior. The tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be aired live on television station My 9. It can also be seen online, courtesy of the iFan Sports Network, on
