STEVENS POINT, Wis. – After a disappointing season opener at St. Ambrose University, the Regents continued their slow start with two losses at the UW-Stevens Point Pointer Tipoff Tournament.  Rockford lost to #18 UW-Stevens Point 75-49 on Friday and 79-66 to St. Scholastica on Saturday.  Rockford’s record now stands at 0-3, with their NAC opener set for Saturday against Lakeland College.

Offensively, Rockford struggled against UWSP, shooting only 37.3% from the field, including 1-8 from beyond the arc.  Sophomore Britney Curry (Merrillville, Ind./ Merrillville) and junior Melissa Swaziek (Loves Park, Ill./ Harlem) led the Regents with 12 points each.

Rockford’s performance on Saturday against St. Scholastica was a tale of two halves.  The Regents went into the break with a 35-29 lead on the strength of 53.6% shooting. Eight players recorded at least seven minutes and got into the scoring column.  After the break, Rockford managed only eight field goals and were outscored 50-31.  For the game, Curry led the Regents with 15 points and nine rebounds.  Freshman Erika McCall added 12 points and five rebounds off the bench, while Swaziek and junior Megan Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./ Pearl City) added 10 points each.

Curry’s performance was worthy of inclusion on the Pointer All-Tournament Team.  Curry averaged 13.5 points, seven rebounds, 3.5 assists, and two steals over the weekend.

Rockford will try to pick up their first win of the year on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., when they welcome Lakeland College to Seaver Center for their Northern Athletics Conference opener.
