ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford College men’s basketball team played a solid 36 minutes against Eureka College on Wednesday night at the Seaver Center.  Unfortunately, it was the final four minutes that led to Rockford’s 91-90 loss to the Red Devils, dropping the Regents to 1-1 on the season.

Rockford opened the game as they had closed their season opener, pushing the tempo and knocking down shots, opening the game on a 12-4 run.  Rockford pushed their lead to 12 midway through the first half, but the advantage hovered between three and seven points for much of the half.  Rockford held a 41-34 lead at the half on the strength of 15 and 11 points, respectively, by juniors Robert Malone (Stephens, Ark./ Stephens) and Taylor Stinson (Schiller Park, Ill./ East Leyden).

The Regents seemed to be in control when Malone went on a personal 10-0 run to extended their lead to a game-high 15 points with 13 minutes to play. The Red Devils had their own plans, continuing to chip away at Rockford’s lead on the strength of senior Kameron Bell (Clinton, Ill./ Clinton).  With just under four minutes to play, Rockford’s lead was gone and they trailed 80-79.  Teams exchanged buckets but a Bell three-pointer with under 15 seconds remaining pushed Eureka’s lead to an insurmountable four points.

Malone continued his solid early play, finishing the game with 35 points on 16-19 shooting, while Stinson netted 19 point, going 5-9 from beyond the three-point arc.  Andrew Weber (Roscoe, Ill./ Boylan) and Randon Williams (Chicago, Ill./ Westinghouse) added nine point each, while Weber also recorded eight assists and six steals.

Bell led Eureka with 44 points.

Rockford will try to get back on the winning track on Tuesday, November 24, when they welcome Trinity International University to the Seaver Center.
