Basketball teams appear set for runs to titles

Here’s to seeing some good hoops around the area over the next few months.
Not only are we in a rush to get into college basketball season because the football teams from the region have stunk it up — except for Northern Illinois — but we also have some seriously high expectations to get us pumped up.
NIU should be a strong contender to win its first MAC men’s title since 2005-06. The Huskies have never won a regular-season and tournament title in the same season in the MAC; this could be the year.
And they won’t be the only teams from around here contending. The Rockford College men and women should battle for NAC championships, and Rock Valley’s squads are already off to a good start.
