Rockford College (0-8, 0-5 NAC) got its first touchdown midway through the fourth quarter, long after their home game against Benedictine was decided.
The Regents, doomed by seven lost fumbles and eight turnovers, remained winless after a 32-6 beating at the hands of the visitors from Benedictine (4-4, 3-2). It didn’t help that Rockford failed to get a single bounce all day as well.
“I have never been involved in a game where every time it was out there,” Rockford head coach Randy Schrader said, ”the ball popped right into the other guy’s hands. It was hard to handle. I mean, on top of everything else, and now this. We can’t get any breaks.”
One of the most devastating turnovers was a shotgun snap that sailed over the QB’s head, was scooped up and returned 30 yards for a touchdown to make it 25-0 early in the fourth quarter.
“When things are bad,” Schrader added, “they are really, really bad.”
