Rockford College to show 'Rocky Horror' on Friday

The 1970s cult hit “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” will be shown at Rockford College’s Maddox Theatre at 11:59 p.m. Friday.

The interactive show includes a prop bag from the college’s Regent Players for those who make a donation to the group. Concessions will be available, and appropriate costumes are encouraged.

Cost is three pennies or any donation, with tickets available at the door. For details, call the Rockford College box office at 815-226-4100.

“Rocky Horror” screenings are famous for audience participation — not only through character costumes, but for throwing toast or dancing during certain scenes.

The audience will dance to “The Time Warp” song, kind of a raunchy hokey-pokey.

Throw rice during the wedding scenes and toast during the dinner scene, put a newspaper over your head during the rain scene, and throw playing cards at the line “Cards for sorrow, cards for pain.” But don’t throw anything at the screen.

The audience may shout out words or lines during the movie. As long as it’s funny and not disruptive, go with it.

If you’ve never seen the show before, you may be singled out before it starts. Don’t worry — it’s all in good fun.

“Rocky Horror” is a rock-musical send-up of old science-fiction and horror films. It is rated R.
