MEQUON, WI – Rockford College sent 8 runners to the Northern Athletics Conference Cross Country Championships and returned home with 6 “All-Conference” honors.
In the first race of the day, Audra Carlson (Winnebago, IL / Winnebago) got things started for the Regents with an “All-Conference” 9th place finish, coming within 18 seconds of her personal best time under windy conditions on a challenging course covered with mud and standing water roughly 5 to 10 inches deep in some sections.
Carlson was ranked 13th coming into the meet and her highest previous finish was 12th in 2008. “This is the mental toughness that made Audra Carlson an All-State runner in high school and a respected leader in our program” said Coach Roger Fredrickson. “She’s an honor student in the classroom, a relentless competitor on the cross country trails, and a senior who has overcome considerable adversity to finish her career with honor and dignity,” adding “I’m sincerely going to miss her”.
In the men’s race, Matt Lindgren (Oak Forest, IL / Oak Forest) led the Regents to a 3rd place team performance with an exciting 3rd place individual performance that brought him within 23 seconds of his best performance under the same challenging weather conditions and even worse course conditions the women had battled. According to Coach Fredrickson, “We had a race plan and Matt refused to let anything get in his way. It’s all about putting it together on the right day and in conference competition he’s been in the top 8 very year for the past four years”
As a team Rockford put 5 runners in the top 20 in the field of 99, finishing 11 points from 1st place and continuing to establish themselves as one of the best teams in the Northern Athletic Conference with Victor Reyes (Winthrop Harbor, IL / Zion Benton) 9th, Seth Lagerhausen (Mesa, AZ / Dobson) 11th, Tyler Mendenhall (Prophetstown, IL / Erie / Prophetstown) 17th, and Randy Ebert (Belvidere, IL / Marengo) 20th.
All Conference Women: Audra Carlson 9th
All Conference Men: Matt Lindgren 3rd, Victor Reyes 9th, Seth Lagerhausen 11th
All Conference Honorable Mention: Tyler Mendenhall 17th, Randy Ebert 20th
