Fighting Illini fans are ready for basketball to kick in. Even locally, Rockford College followers are ready to move on, get inside and get some wins.
Illinois’ football team has already lost a large portion of its fan base for the rest of the year.
Lackluster play and blowout losses will do that to a team coming in with high expectations.
On the hardwood, Illinois is coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance and a 24-win season, and the Illini brought in 2009 Illinois Mr. Basketball Brandon Paul, who should help lift Illini fans’ spirits after a rough football season — at least so far.
The same holds true at Rockford College, where the football team is winless through five games and the basketball team comes in ready to build on its 17-10 season.
The Regents start basketball practice today while the Illini kick it off Friday night.
