A scant one year ago, Erin Thill was busy helping the Aquin volleyball team win games.

For the next four years, Thill will be helping Elmhurst College win matches.

Thus far, she is well on her way. The Bluejays are 5-5 overall and 2-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. During the month of September, Thill played in eight matches and was named to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh All-Tournament team.

The 5-foot-5 freshman setter helped EC win its final two games of the tournament. EC thumped Carroll University (3-1) and St. Norbert College (3-0). Thill played her best game of the tournament against SNC as she had 25 assists and four digs. Against Carroll, she finished with 12 assists.

For the season, the freshman has 119 assists and 47 digs. She is splitting time with an Elmhurst sophomore. In EC’s most recent win, a 3-1 win over Wheaton College in CCIW action, Thill had 14 assists and five digs. ...

Freeport grad Austin Walther, a Luther College freshman, scored the game-winning goal in Luther’s 3-0 win over Bethel University. Walther struck the back of the net at the 75:04 mark of the contest giving Luther a 1-0 lead. It was first goal of Walther’s career. Luther is 2-5-1 overall and 0-1 in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. ...

The Quincy University volleyball team won its first Great Lakes Valley Conference match, beating Missouri University of Science and Technology 3-2. Stockton grad Christine Williams, a Quincy freshman, finished with 12 kills and four digs. Fellow Quincy freshman Damaris Linker, an Eastland grad, finished with eight digs and two assists. Quincy is 2-13 overall and 1-3 in the GLVC. ...

The North Central College volleyball team continues its winning ways as it is now 17-1 overall. Notable wins in the last week include its first CCIW triumph, a 3-0 win over Millikin University and four wins at the Wheaton College Tournament. In the win over Millikin, former Lena-Winslow volleyball player Stacie Mokros, a North Central College senior, had five kills and three assisted blocks. Her best game in the Wheaton Tournament was against University of Chicago. She finished with nine kills and a .389 hitting percentage. North Central also defeated Rockford College (3-1), Lakeland College (3-1) and Benedictine University (3-0). North Central is 1-1 in the CCIW. ...

Durand grad Rachel Brubaker, a Bradley University senior, finished 25th in the Missouri State University Cross County Classic. Brubaker toured the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes, 17.6 seconds. Bradley took third with 62 points. Kansas State University won the meet with 27 points. ...

The Rockford College football team is 0-3 after its first three football games. In their latest loss, a 51-3 loss to Alma College, Dakota grad Brandon Houghton had six tackles (three solos). Kyle Kubatzke, a Rockford sophomore and Orangeville grad, started at right guard and helped Rockford post 122 yards of offense. They passed for 67 yards and rushed for 55. ...

University of Dubuque took eighth in the Iowa Intercollegiate Championships, which was held in Ames, Iowa. Durand grads Beth Michaelis and Megan Michaelis, as well as Pecatonica grad Katie Tipping all competed for Dubuque. Beth Michaelis finished 44th, touring the 5,000-meter course in 21:21. Megan Michaelis was right behind her sister in 46th. She finished in 21:27. Tipping finished 55th in 22:20. Dubuque scored 198 points. Iowa State University won the outing with 51.
