ROCKFORD — A reception recognizing a new music relationship between Rosecrance Health Network, 1021 N. Mulford Road, and the Music Academy of Rockford College is scheduled for 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday on Rosecrance’s Griffin Williamson Adolescent Campus.
The inclusion of music is part of Rosecrance’s adolescent experiential therapies treatment program to foster self-expression and self-esteem.
“Adolescents learn best by doing. A traditional format leaves these young adults distracted and uninvolved,” said Dave Gomel, vice president for Adolescent Services at Rosecrance. “Beyond providing entertainment, music has the power to soothe, to excite, to create or change a mood. We know that intuitively. A growing body of research tells us that music also is beneficial in addiction treatment and recovery.”
